Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Interview with Oprah Winfrey
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry gave over their royal titles and stepped down from the Royal responsibilities last year (Megxit). And recently, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, they had some serious revelations about the royals and are in the headlines since then. Royals are accused of many serious allegations and are trying to come clean. But the interview and the revelations left many in shock including the Royals. Oprah Winfrey, the host, herself was astonished when she heard Meghan Markle talking about her life as a Royal and her hardships.
Revelations that led to Controversies- Racism and, Mental problems
It is probably the first time when someone from the Royal family talked upfront about the happenings behind all the glitters. Meghan said that she faced racism and racist discrimination and was questioned often about the color of her unborn when she was pregnant with Archie, Prince Harry, and Meghan’s first child.
These revelations seized the internet and created wreck havoc for the Royals. Though people supported Royals too. But many actors like Patrick Adams and Abigail Spencer -co-actors from Meghan’s Legal drama Series, Suits, came forward and supported Meghan Markle.
Meghan disclosed a miserable part of her life, suicidal thoughts, and mental problems. She said she was denied help when in need saying it could harm their Royal reputation. Meghan suffered all the trauma on her own and she was not even in a state to share it with prince harry. Later on, when the prince knew about the citation he took the stand for her. That’s when they gathered the courage and thought of separating from the Royals.
After Meghan and the Prince’s interview, members of the Royal family were also seen giving interviews and falsifying Meghan’s allegations. No one knows the actual truth as both sides tried to claim themselves right. But what caught people’s attention was the allegations Meghan allegedly accused the Royals with.
This game of blame kept going and is still on with quite good media coverage and public interference. However, the takeaway from this very particular interview is Hypocrisy.
Takeaway- Racism, Mental health, Hardships
In many countries, Racism and color-based discrimination still prevail. In many countries, domestic abuse and mental trauma to family members, especially women, still happens. In some South Asian countries, color discrimination is still alive. In fact, here, in these countries, color discrimination is not even based on race and prejudice. It is solely based on what color the bride is.
For that purpose, one can witness color-based discrimination while looking out for a bride for their Sons. Girls are body shamed, discriminated against based on colors, and often mocked for pursuing their dreams instead of wishing to become a housewife. In many places, Women are also tortured for having a male child. Women having only girl children are smashed with taunts and mockeries every time, when in social gatherings around relatives. Moreover, much of the time, especially by their own in-laws.
Women are forced to have children immediately after marriage with or without consent. Women are often tortured and forced to leave their careers and work for the family. Women are always acknowledged as weak and are never treated fairly. Such happenings are not even rare. One can easily witness such misbehavior in neighborhood, surroundings, or more of it, in their own family.
What we can do?
People crying over hardships and racism faced by Meghan Markle need to look out in their surroundings first and fix problems that they can.
